Trapezoidal Rule - The Organiza Chemistry Tutor Guy Is Not All That Great at Organiza Chemistry'You should not be concerned about getting a job because you are not great at organic chemistry,' is what the Organiza Chemistry tutor guy said to me when I asked him about my recent graduation from a few years of schooling in the sciences. Indeed, he must have been right about that, as I still am not great at it. So, let me explain my dilemma.A lot of my teacher's assistants and classmates had just told me that I would be perfect for a job if I joined one of their organizations. My teacher, an organic chemistry tutor guy, convinced me that, with my very high grades in my school, I could find a decent job as a teacher's assistant without being bothered by the employers who would most likely ask me about my background in organic chemistry. Well, now I did not want the burden of having to convince anyone about this matter, so I decided to just let them decide and take the job if they thought I was good enough. Unfortunately, for some reason, people do not seem to be so understanding when it comes to people who seem to know a lot more than what they actually know.Three months after graduating, I had learned that I would be graduating from the same college as someone else who had graduated three months earlier, but I had graduated from a smaller institution, which meant that I could not apply for the jobs. I learned that the only job that was available for me would be a job as a lifeguard, and of course, this job required a certification that I did not have.Later on, I found out that the organic chemistry tutor guy had been telling people to just call me when they need help with organic chemistry. Apparently, he was able to convince the companies that I could be of help and get paid very well. He claimed that I had earned up to four thousand dollars a month just from teaching in his organization, but there were no records of this, only his word.He had an employer's brochu re that he kept telling people to look at while trying to persuade them that it was a legitimate organization and the organic chemistry tutor guy was really the organic chemistry tutor guy. Although I doubt if he ever even taught in that organization, I found out later that he was indeed his original name. It seems that the organic chemistry tutor guy's employer had told him that he should do everything in his power to impress his employees so that he would be called for help when the employer needed someone else. Well, I did not really want to be called for help, because, really, I was already struggling to get by.Actually, I am not very sure why the organic chemistry tutor guy took the job in the first place, as I feel that he should have chosen another occupation or college instead of joining a so-called organization. Anyway, there are several organizations that offer paid educational activities for children, but I did not think that I could qualify for the Organiza Chemistry Tut or Scholarship, which are only open to students who graduated from an accredited college, as well as children of grades higher than the elementary school level.Maybe the organic chemistry tutor guy could have picked the right organization to join. But I do not really see any difference between the two organizations. The only one that stands out from the rest is the Organiza Chemistry Tutor Scholarship Foundation, which is the only organization that states on its website that it is dedicated to helping young people like myself who do not have a college education but would like to earn a living teaching organic chemistry.

Basically it’s a group of people that go around trying to figure out how to make usually boring tasks fun. There website phrase is: This site is dedicated to the thought that something as simple as fun is the easiest way to change people’s behavior for the better. So far they have created Piano Staircase, Bottle Bank Arcade Machine, and many more. They actually make me want to take the stairs instead of the escalator. Photo credit: Keenfootwear.com 4. Fred and Friends By far Fred and Friends is my new favorite company. I would describe what Fred and Friends is but it’s kind of unclear. Basically the only way I can put this is: Fred and Friends makes really cool, interesting, and unexpected products. For example they make Cool Beans Ice Tray, Duck Duck Drink, and Stick Em’ Up Phone Stand. Basically, you will just need to check out this website on your own. I’m sure you’ll find some cool stuff. Her two books, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success and Mindset: How You Can Fulfil Your Potential, have both become bibles for many educators, entrepreneurs, writers, and politicians.Both books outline the theory that has made Dweck famous: there is a continuum of ‘mindsets’ that stretches from the ‘fixed mindset’ on one end to the ‘growth mindset’ on the other. This is why we referred to these theories as something like nature and nurture above.You can probably reach the conclusions yourself as to what these two differing mindsets might mean for everyday situations such as accepting criticism, encountering setbacks, and learning new things.People with a fixed mindset are thought, in their reliance on habits of mind that tell them that ability is unchangeable and set in stone, to be much less able to learn and grow and to relish that process of learning and personal growth. Meanwhile, the growth mindset sees others persevere at every setback, as they have a mental attitude which continually strives to learn new things.We’ll be exploring some of the other differences between growth and fixed mindsets below.Encountering Growth Mindsets in the Education System.But first, it is worth paying attention to the ways in which Dweck reached the conclusions of this most compelling of the theories of intelligence out there at the moment. Whilst her ideas have become rather in vogue right now, the initial studies she undertook to elaborate her theories came from a number of studies with kids about twenty years ago.In these studies, groups of children were given a test. Once they completed the test, they were all told that they had done brilliantly.However, when returning the test scores, the researchers told different groups of the children different things: some were praised for their intelligence and others were praised for their effort.After the study, the kids were monitored for their general attitude and their academic achievement. Those who the researchers had been praising for their effort were much more likely to go on and do much better than those whose intelligence had been praised. Those whose intelligence had been praised â€" their innate ability, rather than their practical effort â€" were more likely to demonstrate a fear of failure later on too.All this was take n as evidence that a growth mindset â€" a mindset that valued effort over innate ability â€" was the key to success.Find out how to develop your growth mindset!Education and the Growth Mindset Today.Nowadays, these studies have taken the education system by storm â€" at least in England. In this country, the imperative to praise effort rather than a simple ‘amount of intelligence’ in school kids has long been influential, encouraging them to persevere, to try harder, and to believe that success comes with work rather than the luck of biology.The idea that praise can be enough to instigate a change of mindset is one that has drawn criticism. However, elsewhere in the world, the difference between innate ability and developable intelligence is one that has gained a huge amount of traction.Some Examples of Fixed and Growth Mindsets.So now, let’s take some examples of the ways in which the two different mindsets â€" fixed vs growth â€" differ in everyday life.We know that both are born of the difference in the conception of the origin of intelligence, yet what affect does this have? For it to be called a ‘mindset’ at all, all of this has to be a bit more significant than a mere belief in innate ability.And that’s precisely the thing: this belief infuses all other aspects of our lives, attitudes, and ways in which the brain works.Let’s take some concrete examples of how these mindsets differ.Learning New Things.One of the main aspects of the fixed mindset is that when it comes to learning new things, people don’t necessarily have the will, the motivation, or the self-determination to do it. If the fixed mindset suggests that intelligence is innate, the motivation to learn is not there: no further education feels worthwhile or even possible.Rather than learning new things, people with a fixed mindset rather want to show themselves and others that they are intelligent â€" for reasons of confidence.Meanwhile, those of a growth mindset relish the opport unity to continually learn, as they recognise that that is the way that intelligence works.Encountering Challenges.Another aspect of the fixed mindset is its aversion to challenge. Perseverance is one of their greatest qualities. You'll never learn an instrument if you don't believe that you can.Accepting Criticism and Advice.People with a fixed mindset are also not considered to be particularly good at accepting criticism and advice. They see it as a personal attack, a wound to their pride, their ability, and their very being.On the other hand, those who have a growth mindset are able to see the value in every criticism, in every piece of advice. If fixed mindsets want the world to know that they are clever, growth mindsets want to pursue intelligence continually. Every advice or piece of constructive criticism keeps pushing them forward.Accepting the Success of Others.Sometimes we feel jealous and resentful â€" or even threatened and intimidated â€" by other people’s achievement and success.For people with a fixed mindset, this is due to the fact that they too want to be recognised as clever â€" or that they will never achieve, with the lot that they have been given â€" the success that they see in others .People with a growth mindset meanwhile find inspiration in the success of others. They see it as something that, with enough effort, they too can achieve. You may not have the words, the clarity of expression or a way to articulate it succinctly just yet. You just know you feel an itch, a tug, maybe even a slap to the head that reminds you that you are not where you want to be. And when you recognize that this is your current emotional state, you may come to realize that you are stuck. The great news is this state is not permanent. This state lets you know that something needs to change, and you have the power to change it. In other words, this state of being stuck is a calling. A calling to take some action. The following are 8 steps to assist you in getting your career “unstuck. Step #1:   Hail, salute and affirm that you are “stuck” in your career.   When you acknowledge that your current position is not bringing you the greatest joy and satisfaction, it can give you the drive to start acting. Acceptance and giving this state a name is the first step. Taking stock of your feelings and owning them such as being dissatisfied with your job responsibilities or feelings of being passed over for a promotion or wanting to work in an entirely new field is the first step toward making a career change. Step #2:   Decide to get “unstuck.   Now that you have identified being stuck, it is time that you decide about taking steps to get unstuck. Your decision, in and of itself, to do something different is a powerful activator toward change. Change only comes from our decision to do something or various things differently. You may decide that enough is enough. You want to make a career change. You have decided that you are going to focus on taking this on and doing the hard work to travel a new career course. Step #3:   Take stock.   Evaluate, evaluate, evaluate.   There are various options you can use to explore your best career fit.   You can utilize career assessment tools such career fitter, Campbell Interest and Skill Survey, or Clifton Strengths Finder to assist in uncovering the best job match based on your personality, innate strengths and talents, your preferred work style and the best work environment for you to thrive. Review and decide which one of these tools would afford you with the necessary information you are seeking. Select one and complete the online assessments. Each is reasonably priced and will provide you with a report containing solid insight and a language to start your job or career change. Step #4:   Consider hiring a career coach.   You may decide that having an objective partner who is a certified professional career coach would provide you with the support and guidance you may need. A career coach like me can assist you in reviewing results in these assessments, provide you with a roadmap to achieving your desired results and advise you along the way. Career coaches can assist you in becoming clear about whether you want a new job, a new career or strategies on how to navigate workplace issues. Step #5:   Use the SMART goal process.   Whether you decide to venture on this journey solo or with the assistance of a career coach, SMART goal setting creates the platform for real results to happen. SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-Bound strategies to craft your goals. The SMART goal system allows you to write your goals in clear and measurable terms.   For example, a goal focused on figuring out your next career steps may look like this. By September 2018, you will have taken the educational leap and have successfully and enthusiastically completed the SHRM (Society of Human Resource Management) CP Exam preparation class to prepare and pass the SHRM HR certification exam to begin your job search as a human resource generalist.                         Step #6:   Break it down.   Next, take those longer-range goals and break them down into bite-size action steps.   Make them doable, attainable and ensure that you set yourself up for success. These mini morsels are important steps. You may start by finding three HR professionals and ask to interview them about their role and tips on taking the SHRM prep class. You may also start by joining your local SHRM chapter and attending one of their meetings to meet other HR professionals. You may also commit to reading one HR related article either from the SHRM website or any other business publication like Harvard Business Review three times a week. These small steps will lead to big changes over time. Step #7:   Discipline creates movement.   When you are disciplined and put your action steps into motion, you will start to gain traction.   You will uncover and move toward your desired career focus and direction. It is only with these small action steps and your consistency and persistence that real change will occur. Once you have been in the throes of taking that SHRM prep class and have been developing and improving your HR knowledge base, your confidence will build. Step #8:   Stop, tweak and adjust.   Look at your progress in four-week intervals.   Are your action steps getting you closer to where you want to be? Do you need to make corrections, adjustments or change course entirely? Has the SHRM prep class proven to be beneficial, have you made meaningful connections with fellow HR classmates and do you need to set a new bar? A new goal? Continue to assess, adapt and enhance your goal focus. Getting unstuck with your career starts with knowing that you are stuck. The amazing part is that you don’t have to live there. You are empowered and have the tools to make that shift and find the job, career or the tools to navigate your workplace situation effectively. By using these 8 steps, you can move from a place of discomfort into a state of pleasure and relief. Getting stuck is a great place to be. It reminds you that you want and deserve more.
